Kittydoctor - the Restatements are actually fairly massive and expensive things, if I remember their space on the library shelf accurately. Don't buy them - you can access them via Westlaw and LexisNexis, and any Restatement stuff that's necessary for your courses will either be in your casebooks or your prof will give it to you.
(They're not even necessarily controlling law - it depends on the doctrine and the jurisdiction, whether courts have adopted the Restatement.)
(Myself, I HATE using a book someone's written in, so I buy new.)

Hello,
I wanted to mention that the Restatements are available through the Lexis Nexis subscription you have through your law school. It is located under the search tab. Corbin on Contracts is available as well. So, in effect, you have already purchased the book(s) through your law school tuition. (Don't forget about the "free" printer in the library. I actually found the explanatory notes of the Restatements helpful, but the class can only cover just a few of the principles discussed. Good luck with your first year.

Do not buy unless the professor has specifically told you to do so. It is likely you will never need them for those classes.

I am not buying the Rest's or UCC. This summer, we had K class, and prof provided rest's and UCC arts 2 and 9.
Call me a nerd, but I love the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Prof also assn'd a book that takes you through a hypo case from complaint to judgement, a how to book. I read it over two 1/2 days. Illustrated Guide to Civ Pro, I think. It's wonderful, and should be read before case book stuff.
Then, on email today, visiting LP prof reco'd books, only two of which I had, and has an assn out of the three I don't have. Will hit the library to read assn until Amazon comes through.
Same prof kicked my butt again today. He copies emails to everyone with comments. He has a cool hypo for the next two days, though, where the characters are from Harry Potter. I'm shutting up, tho.
In practice briefing classes last week, I heard some of the dumbest comments ever. Not that I'm the sharpest knife in the drawer, but don't you think that people would think? One prof in vet school called it 'diarrhea of mouth, constipation of thought.' We do not want to talk to hear the sound of our uneducated voices.
Trying to fit everything into giant roller. Fuller brushes, anyone?
Other thoughts: I went out to lunch with friends today-yes, the day before! Then studied a coupla hours in the library. Tension was palpable, so I went swimming. Last Tuesday, while shaking it in Zumba class, I thought of people starting to really stress about school. I know it's going to be hard, and I'm gonna have to work 10x harder, but by golly, I'm going to have fun! This is fun stuff, from as I've said before, like reading hilarious dissenting opinions, to wondering why some dumb-a is suing for BS reasons. Interesting cases, and the hypos the profs make up are classic.
To all 1Ls who start soon, me and King tomorrow, kick some legal A$$ for the KD. Do it by remaining SILENT.
